When you think of therapy you likely think of sitting in an office and talking seriously about your thoughts and feelings. For adults, a quiet and calm room can be a great place to find your inner emotions and a patient and understanding therapist giving you space to think could be quite helpful. But for boys and young men a quiet, sterile environment and a calm, waiting adult can be exactly thing to make them shut down and never want to engage in therapy again.

To understand the benefits of in-home therapy for boys you have to understand how they relate to their emotions and other people. Boys have a difficult time understanding and expressing their emotions. This is especially true when they are uncomfortable. They will shut down and internalize their discomfort just from being in a new place, before the therapy can even begin. At home therapy can help eliminate this barrier. If a boy is in a place where he is comfortable, he may be more likely to share deeper and more important emotions.
If you've ever had a conversation with a boy then you also know that they engage in conversation differently. Boys do not like to sit across a table, make eye contact, and discuss anything - they like to have their hands and eyes on something else that will make them more comfortable to talk. Being in their home environment where they can show off their things, play with familiar toys, and engage in games they enjoy may help give them the space to open up about underlying problems.
