Does it help to talk to someone outside of the family?

There is a great deal of research that indicates that having a trusted and engaged adult in a child's life will help them in their emotional and social growth. These supportive figures do not have to be blood relatives or family members. They just have to be invested in the child, like the child, and set a good example for them to follow.

There are many reasons why additional support is helpful for young boys. Supportive relationships with adults are a key factor in boys feeling understood. Finding a therapist that is empathetic, an active listener, and non-judgmental can help a boy feel understood and open up about his feelings. At Therapy for Boys our therapists are trained to be the support system that young boys need to facilitate their emotional grown.
