How do boys open up differently?

How can boys go months without talking and just pick up like there was no time lost? Well, boys connect differently and words are less important in their connections. Research has shown that boys have a harder time connecting, even with their friends, on deeper and more personal matters. Even in early childhood boys start speaking later than girls, have a smaller vocabulary, and are slower to understand non-verbal cues.

When connecting, boys are more likely to avoid prolonged direct eye contact as direct eye contact can signal a threat. Having an alternative focus point can relieve pressure and actually increase comfort and intimacy for men (Psychology today)

Knowing this, it is important to do therapy with boys in an environment that is conducive to them and their learning. Doing in home sessions with a focus point that is not on eye connection and just deep conversation will be more helpful for most boys! â€‹â€‹
